Black Bear Food Guild
The Black Bear Food Guild is a small, motivated group of students at the University of Maine, growing three acres of organic vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Some of us are studying sustainable agriculture, some have grown up on farms, and for some of us, this is our first farming experience. Meg specializes in a wide assortment of scones, including maple-glazed walnut, cranberry-blueberry, orange poppy seed, traditional cream, and other favorites. Her "sundries" vary from week to week and include muffins, mini Irish soda breads, and an array of cookies and biscotti. Customized orders and requests warmly invited. We raise dairy goats (not in production yet), poultry and a few pigs, plus a large vegetable patch. We grow tomatoes, mixed vegetables, and sunflowers. We offer a wide variety of cut flowers by the stem or in generous bouquets. Specialty cut flowers are our primary line and our blooms are available May through October. We will start the season off with a huge crop of long stem French Tulips in mid-May, followed by delphinium, peonies and Gerber Daisies arrive at the market in June. Sweet peas, lisianthus, monkshood, zinnias, gladiolas, sunflowers and may more arrive through mid-season. Attending the market on Tuesdays. |
