- About Us
-
-
Our society is constantly
growing in population. Nearly all of our customers can reflect on
changes within their towns that have happened within their
lifetimes. A new shopping mall, gas station, housing development,
road, or even your own home that have been added to the landscape.
As human populations grow, our available land area shrinks, and with
it, so does available habitat and resources for animals. Wildlife
has to go somewhere, and often Mother Nature administers her own
form of population control through the use of disease and plagues.
Rabies, Mange, and Distemper are good examples of the long drawn out
diseases that slowly kill off whole populations of animals in order
to try and restore balance to an ecosystem. This teeter-totter
balancing act is happening everyday, with all ecosystems, and at
varying levels.

-
We do not handle
domestic animals, that is the job of your local Animal Control
Officer for your town or municipality. We do however handle all
forms of wildlife. Whether you are having troubles with bats in your
home, beavers flooding roadways, birds defacing your business,
skunks in the apiary, coyote predation on calves, or any possible
concern over wildlife where they shouldn't be, call us and we'll
work together to find a solution.
-
-
We offer a range of
solutions. We are not in the business of killing every wild
animal in your yard or home, but neither are we for saving every
animal. We are in the business of conflict resolution. If you have
raccoons in your bird feeder in the summer, then you should put your
bird feeders away until winter when the birds need it. If squirrels
have invaded your walls, then lethal means may be necessary to get
the population under control. Then exclusion products can be used to
keep the animals outside, in the wild. Sometimes there is just a
single rogue animal that can be relocated elsewhere.
-
-
In some situations
involving repair work, such as the sealing of porches or fixing the
soffits where a raccoon had entered the home, we can work with you
to resolve the immediate solution to remove the offending animal,
and then offer suggestions on the best way to seal the structure
against future problems if you feel comfortable performing the work.
We prefer to do the entire job, from initial planning, to
implementation, to final exclusion work on the property. However
some people are perfectly capable working on their own homes and
business, but just lack the knowledge, confidence, and or desire to
deal with particular wildlife. We can help you with any step of the
process and look forward to working with you.
-
-
The only insect-related
service we offer is our Honey Bee Swarm Removal. Swarms are often
short lived and may only be in your yard for a few hours, or a
couple days at most. However, honeybees that have already swarmed
may have found a place to live in your home. We remove these bees
only as a service because we would try to relocate the bees to our
own apiary in an effort to help rebuild honeybee populations. We do
not handle yellow jackets (unless they are in the way of performing
other work), wasps, ants, or any other insect. However, we can and
will recommend local businesses that handle insects and describe the
treatments they use.

Maine Wildlife Exclusion
Services is run seasonally by Randy Canarr. The wildlife services
are an extension of Heritage Farms and allow for an opportunity to
work with wild animals and people outside of traditional
hunting/trapping seasons. Randy has been hunting, fishing, and
trapping his entire life in the Maine woods. It was not until
returning from the Air Force in 2009 that he began exploring ways to
keep him working outside. Handling nuisance wildlife problems fit
well into the up and down seasonal life of the
farm and our guiding
service.

-
In addition to his
lifetime of experience in the outdoors, Randy worked in various
trade occupations including carpentry, roofing, masonry,
landscaping, and both residential and industrial construction prior
to the military. The knowledge gained gives valuable insight into
building construction and design, especially when dealing with
wildlife in the home. Randy received a certificate in Wildlife and
Forestry Conservation through Penn Foster Career College while on
active duty in the military, is a Registered Maine Guide, and is
currently taking classes towards his Bachelors degree in Wildlife
Biology from the University of Maine.
