DIY Wire Holster for a Wheeler Orchard Saw
by Jack Kertesz, January 2021
What follows are photos and specs for a homemade holster. I like carrying this saw on my hip, rather than the traditional method of hooking it up your arm when climbing. It is easy to attach over a belt or over the waistband of your pants. The wire that I used was formerly the handle of a 5 gallon bucket. It is bendable, yet not so soft, that it still retains its shape. The dimensions are relative and you can customize this as you like. I used a vise, pair of pliers, and a hacksaw to cobble this. Don’t forget to file any sharp edges left from any cuts.
The piece of wire that I used was roughly 18” long.
The pocket for the saw is 3” wide and 2½” deep.
The two hooks that drop over a belt are 2¾” long and they are spaced 2½” apart.
I have had the saw pop out of this holster, but only infrequently. Both the saw and the holster could use a touch of colorful paint or tape to help locate either, if you set them down.
